Excited to announce that Mini and Snape's new little brother (yes, this one is human) is arriving this July! Just a little over halfway there...

We were able to squeeze in just a quick 10 minute photo shoot before preschool one day.  It's amazing the smiles you can coax when the promise of candy is being dangled!

Sun-day Saturday

It's been pouring rain this week in Hawaii.  I know I shouldn't complain; it's still in the warm 70's.  Luckily the skies cleared for one sunny lunch and beach day with the family.  Still holding out hope for one more day of blue skies while I'm still here!

Recording

The secret life of a musician... every couple of months he vanishes off the grid for a day or two at a time, reappearing in the night under a pile of cords and instrument cases - tired, stinky, but with a feeling of accomplishment.

I've always been curious about what goes on during a recording session, and I finally got the opportunity to see  the magic for myself.  I lasted about 3 hours (out of 9).  The room wasn't as dark as I expected, but the entrance was much sketchier (an unnumbered door covered in graffiti across from an industrial warehouse. It took a leap of faith to open the door and walk in.).  A few other observations - LOUD, extremely specific technical tweaks, a lot of note-taking, suggestions and consulting, repetitive.  It was pretty impressive to see the technical expertise and collaboration that goes into every little adjustment along the way.

Overall, it definitely gave me a new appreciation for what goes into the making of a gorgeous song, regardless of how simple it sounds to my unsophisticated ear!

Somewhere in the Marin Headlands

This weekend we set out to do a 4 miler to a beach and back.  We ended up on a beautiful trail that we shared with horses, bikers, and even a few deer!  But, after a few uphill miles moving inland we realized we might not be making it to that beach.  There's always next weekend!

Montara Sunset

We've been driving past La Costanera for years now on our way out hiking/bowling (a pretty standard Saturday).  It's a gorgeous Peruvian tapas restaurant perched on Montara beach, and I've always admired it longingly through its locked doors (it's only open for dinner).  On our way out to Santa Cruz we finally got to try it, and it was delicious, romantic, ambient - everything you're looking for in a weekend date night.  I popped out to its terrace a few times during dinner to take these sunset pics:

These monarchs were definitely less ragged and more hyper than the ones I saw this past fall in Delaware!
