Delaware Gem: Winterthur

We spent Christmas Eve exploring Winterthur, a gorgeous du Pont mansion and grounds which was spectacularly decorated for Christmastime.  The museum was sporting themed Christmas trees in almost every room, geese dotted the hillsides, and the air had a distinct bite (prepping for evening snow flurries!).

Baby Athletics

There was a lot of hype around his rolling ability going in, so, family circled around and leaning in, he was under some pressure to perform.

Ready?

Set.

Go!

And he stuck the landing!

Victory is so sweet.

Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve

We were able to pass under the highway from the beach to the marsh.  Even though our initial inspiration was this 1.4 mile hike, it quickly became apparent that the locale called for uninformed traipsing rather than following a strict course.  Marshes tend to be my favorite because of all the birds and critters hiding nearby (this one was more wild than Coyote Hills, but more accessible than Grizzly Island which made for a nice middle ground).  We even spotted a doe and fawn in the tall grass.

Pescadero State Beach

This beach is the entry into the Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve, but it is a worthwhile destination on its own.   We arrived during an ideal low tide, in time to get up close to the seals and witness a seagull choking down a large starfish!
