Morocco: Cats in Tangier

The number of cats on the streets of Tangier was very surprising to me (more than any other city I've visited, no dogs in sight); but even more shocking (in the best possible way) was how the locals loved them!  During the course of just two days we witnessed old ladies hand-feeding the street cats bits of meat, children toting them around in their arms, and fishmongers tossing out free fish to a whole crowd of expectant felines.  There were little dishes of water set out in every alley.  Once when a man saw me photographing a gaggle of kittens he ran back into his house and came back out with a can of cat food.
