Coyote Hills Regional Park

Coyote Hills Regional Park was like a mini, family-friendly Grizzly Island;  it's a flat marshland teeming with both birds and bicyclists.  We did an easy 5.1 mile loop, most of which was spent trying to spot otters (success!).  We went off trail just briefly and discovered an island piled with pelicans.  This basically confirmed my suspicion that only just out of view from any trail is a burgeoning creature hangout (frolicking baby bobcats is what I usually envision, but I'll take a pelican party, too).

The Dream

I've been searching for otters in the wild for the past few years with some minimal success.  There was a spotting, but no pictures (they all came out blurry), at Grizzly Island and then more recently in Big Sur.  I don't think Sam really counts, though technically he's wild...

Anyways, I'm (overly) proud to announce that after several hours spent crouched at the edge of a marsh, scanning the reeds and acquiring one of the worst sunburns I've gotten in northern CA, I not only spotted but also managed to snap a few subpar photos of my otter friend.

Resolution Loop

Resolution Loop is a beautiful 6.2 mile loop, with tons of butterflies, cool looking sandstone formations, and impressive redwoods.  Trying to get back into the habit of hiking every weekend!
